The Buckingham Branch Railroad (BB) is a family-owned, short line railroad that operates 275 miles of track spanning Virginia from east to west (Richmond & Alleghany Division), and that also includes track in central Virginia (Buckingham Division) and in southern Virginia to the North Carolina state line (Virginia Southern Division). We have been in business 27 years and our focus is outstanding rail freight service to our 42 rail freight customers. And no customer is too small for the BB. We operate five days a week with 17 locomotives and seven train crews, and can offer weekend service as needed. We have three Class 1 railroad interchanges with CSX and three Class 1 railroad interchanges with Norfolk Southern. These six Class 1 railroad interchanges enable our customers to ship to, or receive, freight from any destination in North America or the world. These six interchanges with CSX and Norfolk Southern also ensure our customers the best freight rates and freight delivery schedules available. The Buckingham Branch has more than 30 available sites and buildings for new customer locations on the BB and we have 15 locations available for transload to or from trucks. Some of our newest customers are taking advantage of our direct rail service and transload locations adjacent to I-95, I-64 and I-81 to establish regional distribution centers and regional transload centers for the Mid-Atlantic region and the U.S. east coast. We handle any type of freight that can move by rail. Some of these commodities include steel, lumber, cement, chemicals, bentonite clay, agricultural commodities, butane, wood chips, railroad ties, salt, food commodities, beer, and wine. We can also help train your employees to load or unload your freight safely and efficiently. In addition, our commitment to safety was recognized in 2014 by the American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association for the "Most Improved Safety Record" among 450 short line railroads in North America.
